Where it came from
Released in 1958 by London Records, this single features Bill Hayes performing the title track from the 1956 Disney live-action western 'Westward Ho, the Wagons!'. The film marked a significant expansion for the studio, which was actively broadening its portfolio beyond animated classics to include historical dramas and adventure stories aimed at family audiences during the mid-fifties.
The recording is part of the era’s trend of leveraging motion picture soundtracks to drive radio play and record sales. Bill Hayes, already a well-established singer and actor, brought a polished, traditional pop sensibility to the arrangements. His interpretation reflects the era's focus on wholesome, narrative-driven music that aligned with the studio's carefully curated public image.
