Where it came from
Released in 1988 on the independent German label X-Mist Records, this compilation LP was conceived as a way to make early, out-of-print material accessible to a wider audience. The label, known for its commitment to the DIY punk and hardcore ethos, curated the 'Sold-Out EP's Re-Release Rip-Off' to feature tracks from seminal bands like Spermbirds, Die Walter Elf, and Skeezicks, effectively acting as an archival project for the burgeoning European underground scene.
The design and title of the record reflect the irreverent, self-aware humor typical of the 1980s hardcore subculture, explicitly acknowledging the 'rip-off' nature of reissuing sold-out EPs while simultaneously providing fans with a high-value collection of rarities. It was received within the punk community as a practical necessity, helping to preserve the legacy of these specific regional bands and anchoring X-Mist's reputation as a vital repository for German underground music.
