Where it came from
Released in 2019 under the Just Another Normal Guy Records label, the X-Sessions EP represents the quintessential output of the independent garage-rock revival scene. Produced as JANGR 009, the record captures the band’s signature raw, unpolished aesthetic, which was recorded in a single weekend to emphasize spontaneity over studio perfection. The project was intended to serve as a bridge between the group’s early live performances and their subsequent full-length studio debut.
The minimalist artwork was conceptualized by the band’s lead guitarist, who aimed to reflect the transient and DIY nature of their music through stark black-and-white photography. Critics at the time praised the record for its sonic honesty, noting that it successfully translated the high energy of their club sets into a tangible, lo-fi format. It remains a sought-after piece for those documenting the late 2010s resurgence of analog-focused independent labels.
