Италия. Раннее Барокко XVI-XVII ВВ.

Released by the state-owned Soviet label Melodiya, this recording is part of an extensive series dedicated to classical and early music repertoires that were made accessible to the public during the mid-20th century. Produced during the late 1960s, the record sought to introduce listeners within the Soviet sphere to the nuances of Italian early Baroque compositions, a period defined by the transition from polyphonic Renaissance traditions to the dramatic, ornamental styles of the seventeenth century.

The ensemble Madrigal, a specialized collective renowned in the Soviet Union for their dedication to Western early music, performed the pieces featured on this release. Under the guidance of their founder, Prince Andrey Volkonsky, the group employed historically informed interpretations that were considered academically rigorous for the time. The record was received as a significant pedagogical and cultural achievement, serving as a rare bridge for Soviet audiences to engage with European compositions that had previously lacked widespread institutional exposure.
