Where it came from
Yummy-Ya! was released in 1987 on the Siren label as a representative example of the late-eighties indie pop and new wave scene. Brenda and the Beach Balls utilized a bright, high-energy aesthetic that was common among independent UK bands of the period seeking to blend catchy, surf-influenced melodies with the then-dominant synth-pop production techniques.
The record design reflects the DIY ethos of the era, focusing on vibrant, playful imagery intended to highlight the group's lighthearted and accessible sound. While the release did not achieve mainstream commercial chart success, it remains a documented piece of Siren Records' discography and is frequently cited by collectors of 1980s independent music for its characteristic production style and period-specific artwork.
