Where it came from
A Bao A Qu, the Lightless Shadow was released as a Secret Rare in the 2024 Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game set Supreme Darkness. The card draws its conceptual inspiration from the mythical creature described in Jorge Luis Borges' The Book of Imaginary Beings, a shapeless entity said to inhabit the Staircase of the Tower of Victory in Chittor, which only reaches its perfect form when touched by a human hand.
The design of the card reflects the dark, spectral nature of its literary namesake, utilizing the Link Monster mechanic to represent its elusive presence. As part of a set known for its emphasis on atmospheric and high-rarity collectibles, this card was received by the community as a significant aesthetic addition to the game's meta-narrative, bridging the gap between classic literature and modern fantasy illustration.
