Ancient Gear Duel

Ancient Gear Duel was released in the 2024 booster set Legacy of Destruction as a common trap card. It was designed to provide specific support for the Ancient Gear archetype, a fan-favorite series of machine-type monsters first introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX era. The card serves as a thematic continuation of the series' core mechanic of aggressive, battle-oriented play, allowing players to facilitate special summons from their deck while reinforcing the deck's historical identity as a relentless, gear-based force.

The artwork and mechanics for this card were developed by the Konami design team to modernize the Ancient Gear strategy for the contemporary competitive format. By integrating effects that interact directly with the field and graveyard, the card seeks to balance the archetype's traditional reliance on high-level monsters with the faster, more resource-intensive pace of modern play. It received attention from dedicated archetype players as a utility piece intended to bolster the consistency of Ancient Gear decks during high-stakes dueling.
