Artifact Achilleshield

Artifact Achilleshield was released in the 2014 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game booster set Primal Origin. It belongs to the Artifact archetype, a series of LIGHT Fairy monsters introduced during the Zexal era. These cards were designed with a unique gimmick: they can be set in the Spell and Trap zone as spells, then special summoned during the opponent's turn if destroyed while set, creating a reactive and disruptive playstyle that influenced the game's competitive meta upon its debut.

The design of the Artifact monsters draws heavily from classical mythology, with each card representing a legendary weapon or item. Achilleshield specifically references the Shield of Achilles, famously forged by Hephaestus in the Iliad. In the card's artwork, the shield is depicted with a divine, crystalline aesthetic consistent with the rest of the archetype's members. As a common rarity card, it served as an accessible utility piece within the broader set, prized for its ability to protect other Artifact monsters from battle damage.
