Artifact Scythe

Artifact Scythe was originally introduced as a secret rare in the 2014 Primal Origin booster set before being reprinted as a super rare in the 2015 Mega-Tin Mega Pack. This card belongs to the Artifact archetype, a series of light-attribute fairy monsters designed with a unique gimmick: they can be set in the spell and trap zone and special summoned during the opponent's turn if destroyed. The theme focuses on punishing opponents for interacting with backrow cards, reflecting a strategic design meant to disrupt common removal tactics.

The visual design of the Artifact series, including Scythe, leans into an ethereal, celestial aesthetic characterized by crystalline weapons and ornate, glowing motifs. These illustrations were developed by Konami’s internal art team to represent ancient, magical relics that manifest as monsters. Upon its release, the card quickly became a staple in competitive play due to its powerful effect, which locks the opponent out of the extra deck for a turn, making it a highly regarded utility card in various control-oriented deck builds.
