Beastking of the Swamps

Beastking of the Swamps was released in 2002 as part of the Tournament Pack: 1st Season, a foundational set designed for official organized play in the early days of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Introduced during the initial rollout of the game in North America, this set provided players with a mix of utility cards and rare monsters that were not available in the standard retail booster packs of the time, effectively establishing the early competitive meta-game.

The card features an illustration by the original Konami art team, consistent with the gritty, mythological aesthetic of the franchise’s early monster designs. As a rare-tier card within this specific pack, it was highly sought after for its ability to function as a fusion material substitute, a mechanic that provided significant flexibility in deck building. Its design was praised for its tactical utility, helping to solidify its place as a staple among competitive players throughout the early 2000s.
