Blackwing - Elphin the Raven

Blackwing - Elphin the Raven was released in 2009 as part of the Raging Battle booster set for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It debuted during the height of the Blackwing archetype's popularity, a theme designed by Kazuki Takahashi's studio that emphasized swarm tactics and rapid special summoning. The card was created to provide the deck with defensive utility and board control, reflecting the series' shift toward highly synergistic monster groups that rewarded players for fielding multiple members of the same archetype.

The artwork follows the characteristic aesthetic of the Blackwing series, featuring dark, avian-inspired humanoid designs with metallic armor and wings. This particular printing, released as an Ultimate Rare, employs a specialized etching technique and embossed foil finish that distinguishes it from common iterations. While individual Blackwing monsters varied in competitive viability, the set as a whole was widely received by players for its consistency and aggressive playstyle, solidifying the archetype's place in the competitive meta of the late 2000s.
