Where it came from
The Blue-Eyes White Dragon, designated JMP-001, was released in early 2003 as a promotional insert in the inaugural North American issue of Shonen Jump magazine. This release marked a significant moment for the Western expansion of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, as it provided collectors with an ultra-rare variant of the franchise's most iconic monster, which had previously only appeared in the Starter Deck: Kaiba.
The card features the classic artwork by Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga series. Takahashi designed the Blue-Eyes White Dragon to embody immense power and rarity within the lore of his story, serving as the signature card for the rival character Seto Kaiba. The JMP-001 edition is highly regarded by enthusiasts for its distinct foil treatment and its role as a milestone in the magazine's promotional history.
