Card Guard

Card Guard was introduced as part of the Battle Pack 2: War of the Giants set, released by Konami in 2013. This set was specifically engineered for a limited draft format, designed to emulate the high-stakes, epic feel of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! animated series. Unlike standard booster sets, the Battle Pack focused on high-impact monsters and strategic utility, providing players with cards that could shift the momentum of a game quickly within a vacuum of other random pulls.

The design of Card Guard leans into the utilitarian aesthetic common in early-to-mid era Yu-Gi-Oh! card art, depicting a mechanical, sentinel-like figure tasked with the role of protection. Its effect reflects this lore, allowing the monster to distribute a Guard Counter to another card on the field, effectively granting it a layer of damage mitigation. As a common rarity card, it served as a reliable staple for players participating in the Battle Pack 2 draft format, valued more for its practical defensive utility than for visual rarity or competitive tournament dominance.
