Provenance

Where it came from

The Card of Safe Return was released as an Ultra Rare promotional card in the Hobby League 7 set, specifically designated as participation card HL07-EN005. During the mid-2000s, Konami introduced the Hobby League to incentivize play at local card shops, distributing exclusive foil versions of established cards to loyal participants. These cards were highly sought after not only for their gameplay utility but also for their distinct aesthetic, which featured the shimmering texture characteristic of Hobby League releases.

Originally appearing in the Magician's Force expansion, the card was illustrated to depict a creature or entity being pulled back from a spectral dimension, a visual representation of its powerful effect that allows players to draw cards when monsters are Special Summoned from the Graveyard. Because of its ability to generate significant card advantage, the card became a staple in competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! strategy, eventually leading to its restriction in official tournament play. The Hobby League version remains a notable collector's item for those documenting the history of the game's competitive organized play.
