Card of Sanctity was originally introduced during the early years of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, debuting in the Master Collection Volume 1. Its design was inspired by the powerful, game-altering spell used by Seto Kaiba in the original manga and anime series. In its initial form, the card was prized for its ability to allow players to draw until they held six cards in their hand, a mechanic that encouraged aggressive play and recovery strategies.

The version included in Yugi's Legendary Decks, numbered YGLD-ENC27, features the significantly revised effect mandated by Konami to ensure competitive balance. While the original iteration was considered too powerful for tournament play, this common-rarity reprint reflects the errata that requires players to banish their hand and field to draw two cards. This change shifted the card from a staple of dominance to a situational tool, serving as a nostalgic nod to the series' history while aligning with modern gameplay standards.
