Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss

Cir, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss was originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the 2014 set Secrets of Eternity. The card is based on the character Ciriatto from Dante Alighieri's Inferno, serving as a key component of the Burning Abyss archetype. This theme is notable for being one of the few instances where the game’s developers drew direct, heavy inspiration from classical Western literature, blending iconic theological imagery with competitive card mechanics.

The Burning Abyss cards were designed by the game's development team to emphasize graveyard-based utility, with Cir specifically functioning as a recursive engine to revive other monsters from the archetype. While the initial release featured lower rarity, the Battles of Legend: Glorious Gallery version issued this card as an Ultra Rare. The aesthetic design features the dark, atmospheric art style characteristic of the set, which focuses on the visceral depiction of the underworld as described in the Divine Comedy.
