Citadel Whale

Citadel Whale was originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the 2017 set Duelist Pack: Legend Duelist, and later reprinted as a common in the 2022 Legendary Duelists: Duels From the Deep collection. The card was designed to serve as a high-level support monster for Mako Tsunami’s signature WATER-attribute deck, drawing thematic inspiration from the deep-sea strategies favored by the character in the original anime series. It offers players a powerful defensive utility by allowing them to tribute a WATER monster to negate the activation of an opponent's card or effect.

The design of Citadel Whale centers on the concept of a mechanical or armored leviathan, reflecting the fusion of oceanic biology and industrial hardware often seen in the series' creature designs. As a common rarity card in the Duels From the Deep reprint set, it was intended to provide accessible utility for players looking to bolster their Water-attribute engines. The card has been well-received by fans of the series for its synergy with cards like Sea Stealth Attack, which reinforces the archetype's focus on controlling the field through protective effects.
