Provenance

Where it came from

Released in the 2009 Crimson Crisis booster set, Colossal Fighter/Assault Mode was part of a specialized sub-theme introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. The Assault Mode mechanic was designed to turn existing Synchro Monsters into significantly more powerful, high-level effect monsters, requiring the specific Assault Mode Activate trap card to function. This design was intended to provide a high-risk, high-reward strategy for players, reflecting the game's shift toward faster, more aggressive playstyles during the 5D's era.

The artwork for the card was created by Konami’s internal design team, following the aesthetic established by the original Colossal Fighter. The design utilizes a metallic, armored motif intended to convey a sense of amplified power and technological evolution. Upon its release, the card was received as a centerpiece for the Assault Mode archetype, though its competitive viability was frequently debated due to the resource-heavy requirements needed to summon it to the field.
