Crowley, the Magistus of Grimoires

Crowley, the Magistus of Grimoires was introduced in the Genesis Impact booster set, released in late 2020. This card serves as a central engine piece for the Magistus archetype, a collection of Spellcasters themed around historical and mystical figures repurposed as magical researchers. The design draws heavily on occult aesthetics, aiming to bridge the gap between traditional fantasy wizardry and the specific mechanical gimmick of the theme, which involves equipping cards from the Extra Deck to main monsters.

The character design reflects the archetype's high-fantasy visual identity, emphasizing intricate robes and arcane artifacts meant to signify status and research prowess. Upon its release, the card was well-received by competitive players for its ability to search for Magistus support cards, providing necessary consistency to the deck. Its art direction and mechanical utility solidified its role as a staple for fans of the strategy, showcasing the detailed, stylized illustration typical of the era's modern card design.
