Damage Diet

Damage Diet was introduced in the Photon Shockwave booster set, which was released by Konami in the North American market in late 2011. The card is a normal trap that functions by halving all effect damage a player takes for the remainder of the turn. It emerged during a period of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game where burn decks were a significant part of the competitive landscape, making cards that mitigated effect damage common utility additions for players looking to stall against aggressive strategies.

The card’s artwork and design are consistent with the aesthetic of the Zexal era of the franchise, which introduced the Xyz Summoning mechanic. As a common rarity card, Damage Diet was widely distributed and intended as an accessible technical option for deck building rather than a centerpiece of a collection. Its design prioritizes straightforward defensive utility, reflecting the era's focus on maintaining life point stability against specialized damage-dealing cards.
