Provenance

Where it came from

The Dark Paladin card, designated DMG-001, was released as a promotional highlight within the Duel Master's Guide, a special instructional set published by Konami in the early 2000s. It was designed to celebrate the fusion mechanics central to the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, featuring the iconic combination of Dark Magician and Buster Blader. The card reflects the high-fantasy aesthetic that defined the series, utilizing intricate secret-rare foiling to signify its status as a sought-after collectible.

The illustration depicts the character as a formidable spellcaster-warrior hybrid, intended to evoke the strength and prestige of the anime's most prominent duelists. Its release was timed to bolster interest in the expanded fusion deck strategies, and it was met with significant enthusiasm by players who valued both its utility in competitive play and the rarity of its distinct holographic print. Over time, it has become a cornerstone piece for enthusiasts focusing on early-era promotional cards.
