Dark Witch

Dark Witch was released in 2002 as part of the Spell Ruler set, the third major expansion of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in North America. The card represents a foundational era for the game, as Spell Ruler introduced the first Quick-Play Spell cards and established the aesthetic of the early Konami TCG distribution. It serves as a classic example of a level five normal monster, designed during a period when game balance relied heavily on high-attack vanilla monsters to control the field.

The artwork for Dark Witch features a stylized, armored sorceress, consistent with the high-fantasy motifs popularized by the original Japanese OCG designs. It was illustrated with a distinct early-2000s anime influence, emphasizing dramatic poses and character-driven design. Upon its release, it became a recognizable staple for casual players, though it saw limited competitive play due to its high tribute cost relative to its attack statistics.
