Dark Zebra

Dark Zebra was released in the Spell Ruler booster set, which debuted in the North American Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 2002. As one of the early sets to follow the Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon, Spell Ruler introduced mechanics like Ritual Spells and Quick-Play Spells, significantly expanding the tactical depth of the game. The card itself reflects the era's focus on simple, high-fantasy creature designs, typical of the aesthetic established by Konami during the game's initial international rollout.

The card features an effect allowing it to switch to defense position if it attacks, a mechanic designed to mitigate the risks associated with weaker monsters in early-game play.
