Des Wombat

Des Wombat was originally released in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Dark Revelation Volume 3 set, which hit the market in the mid-2000s. This set served as a comprehensive reprint collection, gathering cards previously featured in individual expansion packs like Soul of the Duelist and Rise of Destiny. The card itself represents the Fiend-type monsters that were prevalent in early-to-mid era gameplay, specifically designed to counter effects that inflict direct burn damage to players.

The design of Des Wombat centers on a creature-based negation mechanic, intended to protect a player’s Life Points from common chip-damage strategies popular during its release period. While the artwork depicts a stylized, aggressive wombat character consistent with the whimsical and sometimes surreal aesthetic of the game's monster roster, it is a common-rarity card, meaning it was intended to be widely accessible to players rather than a high-value collector's piece. It remains a representative example of the utility cards that defined the tactical landscape of that era.
