Destruction Punch was released in 2003 as part of Tournament Pack 5, a series of booster packs distributed exclusively to participants in official Konami organized play events. During this early era of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, Tournament Packs served as a primary incentive for local tournament participation, featuring a mix of new card introductions and reprints that were otherwise difficult to obtain in the standard retail sets of the time.
