Provenance

Where it came from

Double-Edged Sword Technique was introduced in the Spirit Warriors booster set, released by Konami in late 2017. As a trap card, it was designed to provide tactical support for the Six Samurai archetype, a fan-favorite series of cards rooted in Japanese feudal history and aesthetics that debuted years earlier in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game.

The card’s design features artwork consistent with the Six Samurai’s visual identity, focusing on the theme of high-risk, high-reward combat. By allowing players to Special Summon two Six Samurai monsters from the graveyard at the cost of the player taking damage equal to the monsters' combined attack, the card emphasizes the sacrifice and discipline associated with the samurai motifs the designers aimed to evoke.
