Provenance

Where it came from

Evil Dragon Ananta was introduced to the North American Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 2008 as part of the Premium Pack 2 set. This release was significant because it brought a selection of cards previously exclusive to Japanese promotional events or manga tie-ins to a wider international audience. The card itself draws inspiration from the Hindu concept of Shesha, the king of all naga serpents, whose name translates to infinite, reflecting the creature's thematic reliance on banishing Reptile-type monsters to grow in power.

The card features artwork consistent with the aesthetic standards of early-to-mid 2000s Konami releases, characterized by high-fantasy creature design and vibrant, detailed illustrations. As a Secret Rare, the card was distinguished by a unique diagonal prismatic foil pattern that made it a chase card for collectors of the period. While it saw limited competitive play due to the niche nature of Reptile-themed decks at the time, it remains a notable example of the early era of specialized promotional releases.
