Garuda the Wind Spirit was introduced in the Dragunity Legion Structure Deck, released by Konami in 2010. This deck was designed to showcase the Dragunity archetype, a series of Dragon-type monsters known for their unique 'equip' mechanic, where smaller Winged Beast monsters attach themselves to larger Dragons to gain power and utility. The set was created to capitalize on the increasing popularity of synchro-based strategies in the Yu-Gi-Oh!
