Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries

Ghost Reaper & Winter Cherries first appeared in the 2016 Japanese set 'Shining Victories' before its release in the Western Duel Power collection in 2019. It belongs to a series of 'Ghost Girl' hand traps, characterized by their unique ability to disrupt an opponent's strategy directly from the player's hand by interacting with their Extra Deck. The card was designed to provide a tactical counter-measure against decks that rely heavily on specific boss monsters, forcing players to adapt their side-decking strategies to survive the card's banishing effect.

The card features artwork consistent with the aesthetic of the Ghost Girl archetype, blending melancholic, spectral imagery with the standard mechanical card design of Yu-Gi-Oh. Upon its release, it was lauded by competitive players for its skill-intensive nature, as it requires a player to possess a copy of the opponent's signature monster in their own Extra Deck to activate. This design choice turned the card into a quintessential staple for tournament play, shifting the focus of competitive deck-building to account for a wider variety of potential threats.
