Ghostrick Yuki-onna

Ghostrick Yuki-onna was introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Shadow Specters set in late 2013, later being reprinted as a common in the 2014 Mega-Tin Mega Pack. The Ghostrick archetype draws inspiration from various international folklore figures and monsters, reinterpreting them as mischievous, secretive spirits that utilize a playstyle centered on flipping monsters face-down. The aesthetic of the archetype was designed to blend horror elements with a whimsical, chibified art style, distancing the creatures from the traditional high-fantasy or aggressive monster designs typical of the game at the time.

The character design for Yuki-onna is based on the Japanese yōkai of the same name, a snow woman said to appear on snowy nights. In this adaptation, the illustrator opted for a playful, pale-skinned figure enveloped in cold-themed attire, consistent with the rest of the Ghostrick theme's nocturnal and secretive nature. Within the competitive landscape of 2014, the card was viewed primarily as a thematic support piece for its archetype rather than a competitive staple, prized more by players interested in the unique mechanical identity and consistent visual style of the Ghostrick deck.
