Gradius' Option

Gradius' Option was introduced in the Legacy of Darkness booster set, released in North America in 2003. The card is based on the iconic 'Option' power-up from the Gradius series of side-scrolling shooters by Konami. In the game, Options are glowing orbs that mirror the player's movements and attacks, a mechanic that the card designers sought to replicate by allowing the monster to gain the same name and attack power as the Gradius monster card when it is on the field.

The card was designed to function specifically as support for the Gradius archetype, emphasizing the tactical synergy required to build a field presence in the early stages of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. As a common rarity card, it was widely available to players at the time of release, serving as a functional utility piece rather than a centerpiece of high-level competitive play, though it remains a notable nostalgia piece for fans of Konami's classic arcade titles.
