Guard Mantis

Guard Mantis was originally released in the 2004 set Magician's Force, emerging during a period of Yu-Gi-Oh! history that prioritized tactical board control through flip effect monsters. The card was designed to function as a defensive pivot, allowing players to both neutralize an incoming attacker and potentially reuse the flip effects of other monsters on their field. This reprint appears in the 2023 Battles of Legend: Monstrous Revenge set, which curated a selection of cards intended to bolster specific archetypes and provide collectors with updated, higher-rarity versions of utility-focused monsters.

As an Ultra Rare in the BLMR set, this version features the modern holographic foiling techniques consistent with high-tier Konami TCG product releases. The artwork retains the classic entomological aesthetic established in the early 2000s, portraying the creature as a stoic, armored sentinel. Its inclusion in Monstrous Revenge served to increase the accessibility of its mechanics for modern players who utilize control-oriented strategies, maintaining its status as a niche but functional tool within the expansive library of the game.
