Hate Buster

Hate Buster was released in the Phantom Darkness booster set, which hit the international market in 2008. The set is widely remembered by players for introducing the Dark Creator and expanding on the DARK-attribute themes that dominated the competitive meta at the time. As a Normal Trap card, Hate Buster was designed to provide players with a situational form of monster removal that punished opponents for aggressive play by forcing them to destroy their own monsters in response to an attack.

The card features an illustrative style consistent with the early Konami era of Yu-Gi-Oh!, emphasizing intense, high-contrast action sequences. While it was not a staple in top-tier competitive decks, it represents the era's focus on complex, reactive trap mechanics. The card’s design reflects the game's ongoing effort to balance the increasing speed of summon-heavy decks with counter-tactics that could theoretically turn an opponent's momentum against them.
