Where it came from
Heraldic Beast Amphisbaena was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Heraldic Beast archetype, which debuted in the Abyss Rising set in 2012. The archetype is inspired by creatures from heraldry and mythology, with this specific design drawing upon the amphisbaena, a serpent with a head at each end of its body. The card was designed to support the archetype's strategy of graveyard manipulation, allowing players to discard two Heraldic Beast monsters to special summon it from their hand.
The version from OTS Tournament Pack 28, released as a common card in 2024, serves as a way to provide players with accessible copies of older utility cards. OTS Tournament Packs are distributed exclusively at Konami-sanctioned hobby stores to support local competitive play. By reprinting this card in a common rarity, the designers ensured it remained a functional, low-cost option for players looking to complete their Heraldic Beast decks or utilize its specific summoning conditions in modern competitive formats.
