Horn of the Unicorn

The Horn of the Unicorn, designated MRL-054, debuted in the Magic Ruler expansion set released in early 2002. As one of the early staple Equip Spell cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, it was designed to provide a consistent boost to a monster's attack and defense while offering a recursive mechanic that allowed it to return to the top of the deck upon being sent to the Graveyard. This design addressed the common issue of card disadvantage associated with traditional Equip Spells, making it a reliable choice for players during the game's nascent competitive era.

The card features artwork consistent with the aesthetic of the original Japanese OCG release, characterized by the high-fantasy motifs prevalent in early card illustrations. While individual illustrators at Konami are rarely credited publicly for specific cards, the design aimed to capture a mystical, reinforcing quality that mirrored the card's function of strengthening a monster permanently.
