Karakuri Anatomy

Karakuri Anatomy was released in 2010 as part of the Starstrike Blast booster set. The card was designed to support the Karakuri archetype, a series of Earth-attribute Machine monsters inspired by traditional Japanese mechanical dolls known as karakuri. These dolls were popularized during the Edo period and are known for their intricate clockwork mechanisms and sophisticated movements, which the card game designers translated into a unique 'battle position' mechanic that forces monsters to change positions whenever they are attacked or attack.

The artwork for the card features a detailed diagram reminiscent of an anatomical blueprint, focusing on the internal gears and spring-loaded joints that define the Karakuri units. Within the competitive landscape of the time, this continuous spell card provided a reliable engine for the deck by allowing players to draw cards whenever a Karakuri monster changed its battle position. It was well-received by players for adding consistency to a highly technical strategy, firmly establishing itself as a staple utility piece for any duelist utilizing the Karakuri theme.
