Kuwagata α

Kuwagata α was originally introduced in the earliest days of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, debuting in the 2002 Metal Raiders expansion. As a low-level normal monster, it represents the foundational era of the game, designed to populate the decks of beginners with basic insect-type support. Its minimalist aesthetic reflects the early design philosophy of the Konami art team, who utilized bold, straightforward illustrations to define the archetypes of the game's initial card pools.

The inclusion of this card in OTS Tournament Pack 19, released in 2022, highlights the long-standing practice of reprinting legacy cards for current competitive play. While these packs are distributed primarily to Official Tournament Stores to reward participants, the reprint of Kuwagata α serves as a nod to the game's history. It remains a common card, valued more by collectors interested in the evolution of card frames and set stamps than by those seeking powerful game mechanics.
