Where it came from
Leghul was released in the North American Metal Raiders expansion for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 2002. As a card from the earliest era of the Western TCG, it represents the foundational period when Konami began localizing the original Japanese OCG sets. The card was designed as a low-level, earth-attribute insect monster intended to bolster the creature variety available to players during the game's nascent stage.
The design of the card reflects the aesthetic established by Kazuki Takahashi and the original illustration team, focusing on the surreal and monstrous character archetypes that defined the early game. As a common rarity card, it served a functional role in booster packs to round out the player experience, emphasizing basic tactical utility through its effect which allowed it to attack the opponent's life points directly while in attack position.
