Machine King was originally introduced during the early era of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, surfacing as part of the Metal Raiders booster set in 2002. As a classic level six monster, it represented the mechanical archetype's early synergy, gaining strength for every other machine-type monster on the field. The card reflected the aesthetic direction of Kazuki Takahashi's original manga, which often featured thematic decks centered on distinct monster types to encourage strategic deck building.

The version from Battle Pack 3: Monster League, numbered BP03-EN019, was released in 2014 as part of a drafting-focused set designed to level the playing field by ignoring standard deck-building restrictions. This iteration features the familiar rare foil treatment, serving as a functional reprint that allowed players to experience iconic legacy cards within the context of a modern, sealed-play format. It remains a recognizable piece of the game's history, highlighting the evolution of machine support throughout the franchise.
