Mad Sword Beast

Mad Sword Beast was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the Dark Beginning 1 booster set. This set was designed as a reprint collection, intended to provide players with easier access to cards that had previously been released in earlier, harder-to-find expansions like Metal Raiders and Pharaonic Guardian. By re-releasing these cards in a curated format, Konami aimed to stabilize the card pool for the growing competitive community of the early 2000s.

The card features an effect that inflicts piercing battle damage, a mechanic that rewards aggressive play by damaging an opponent even when their defensive monster has a lower defense stat than the beast's attack. The illustration depicts a fierce, armored creature consistent with the aggressive aesthetic of the game's early beast-warrior type monsters. While it was not a centerpiece of professional tournament play, it remains a nostalgic piece of the game's foundational era for many long-term collectors.
