Provenance

Where it came from

Mara of the Nordic Alfar was released in the 2011 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game expansion Extreme Victory. The set drew heavily from Norse mythology, integrating the archetypes of the Nordic gods and their associated allies into the game's competitive landscape. This card specifically represents a member of the Alfar, or elves, serving as a tactical piece designed to facilitate the summoning of the powerful Nordic Ascendant and Nordic God monsters by manipulating the graveyard and field.

The artwork reflects the high-fantasy aesthetic typical of the era, utilizing intricate detailing and a stylized, ethereal design to distinguish the Alfar from the more martial Nordic beasts. As an Ultimate Rare, the card features a distinctive etched foil treatment that emphasizes the textures of the character's armor and the magical energy surrounding her. Upon its release, it was primarily sought after by players looking to complete the niche Nordic deck archetype, which emphasized synergy between specific monster types to summon the game's massive synchro monsters.
