Mermail Shadow Squad

Mermail Shadow Squad was introduced as a secret-rare card within the 2025 Mega-Pack Tin, serving as a modern addition to the long-standing Mermail archetype. The Mermail theme first debuted in the early 2010s during the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG ZeXal era, characterized by powerful water-attribute monsters that utilize the graveyard to generate advantage. The design of this specific card maintains the aesthetic continuity of the theme, featuring intricate, aquatic-themed armor motifs and the dark, fluid color palette synonymous with the 'Shadow' variants of the series.

The inclusion of this card in the 2025 Mega-Pack reflects Konami's ongoing strategy of revisiting established archetypes to integrate them into the contemporary fast-paced meta-game. By updating classic themes with new support, the design team aims to balance legacy appeal with competitive utility. Upon its release, the card was noted by the player community for its high-rarity foil treatment, which adheres to the standard aesthetic expectations for secret-rare cards found in high-profile annual re-release products.
