Metal Dragon

The Metal Dragon was released in 2002 as part of the Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon set, the inaugural Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game expansion in North America. Produced by Konami and based on the Japanese original series, this set introduced players to the fundamental mechanics of fusion summoning and early-era monster aesthetics. The design of the Metal Dragon reflects the series' transition from manga panels to collectible cards, utilizing mechanical, armor-plated creature designs that were hallmarks of the early card pool.

The artwork for this era of cards was primarily sourced from the original Japanese illustrations overseen by Kazuki Takahashi. The Metal Dragon was intended to showcase the game's fusion mechanic, requiring specific materials to bring a more powerful mechanical variant of a dragon to the field. While not as iconic as the Blue-Eyes White Dragon or Dark Magician, the card remains a notable piece of late 90s and early 2000s anime-to-game adaptation history, marking the entry point for many collectors into the game's earliest print runs.
