Metalfoes Goldriver

Metalfoes Goldriver made its debut in the 2016 expansion The Dark Illusion, serving as a cornerstone of the Metalfoes archetype. The set introduced a unique playstyle centered on destroying your own cards to set powerful Spell and Trap cards directly from the deck, a mechanic that defined the meta for several tournament cycles. The design aesthetic draws heavily from retro-futuristic mecha tropes, blending industrial machinery with high-speed racing motifs to reflect the group's aggressive, combo-oriented nature.

This specific printing, released in the 2021 Ghosts From the Past collection, features the card as an Ultra Rare variant. Ghosts From the Past was designed as a curated 'all-foil' set aimed at collectors and competitive players alike, offering high-rarity reprints of pivotal cards from throughout the game's history. The inclusion of the Metalfoes engine in this reprint set was intended to acknowledge the enduring impact the archetype had on deck-building strategies during the mid-2010s.
