Mind Over Matter

Mind Over Matter was released as part of the 2008 set The Duelist Genesis, a pivotal expansion in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game that introduced the concept of Synchro Summoning. As a counter trap card, it was designed to support the Psychic-type monster archetype, which debuted in this set, by allowing players to tribute a Psychic monster to negate the activation of an opponent's spell, trap, or effect monster. This tactical utility was intended to give the newly introduced Psychic monsters a distinct defensive identity within the game's evolving meta.

The card's design features the signature aesthetic of the era's Konami-commissioned illustrations, prioritizing high-contrast, stylized imagery that reflects the 'mental' theme of the Psychic sub-type.
