Myutant M-05

Myutant M-05 was released in the 2020 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game expansion Phantom Rage. The card serves as a foundational piece for the Myutant archetype, a series of monsters centered around a body-horror aesthetic that draws thematic inspiration from 1980s science fiction and transformative mutations. The design reflects the archetype's core mechanic, which focuses on banishing cards from the hand or field to summon higher-level, evolved forms, illustrating the progression of the Myutant biological anomaly.

The visual language of the Myutant series, including M-05, is attributed to the internal design teams at Konami, who sought to blend classic creature design with the fast-paced, resource-management style of play prevalent in the modern game. Upon its debut, the card was noted for its utility in searching the deck for specific Myutant spell or trap cards, which helped solidify the consistency of the archetype's complex strategic engine. Its status as an ultra-rare card in the English release made it a focal point for players interested in building decks around the set's distinct fusion and tribute mechanics.
