Where it came from
The Nekroz Mirror was introduced in the 2015 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game booster set, The Secret Forces. Designed as a ritual spell card, it serves as the cornerstone for the Nekroz archetype, a theme heavily inspired by past fan-favorite archetypes like the Gishki and Ice Barrier. The artwork, characterized by the intricate, mystical aesthetic common to the set, reflects the high-fantasy narrative of the Nekroz warriors who don the armor of fallen dragons to harness their power.
Upon its release, the card became a vital component for competitive play due to its versatility, allowing players to tribute monsters from the hand or field to summon Nekroz ritual monsters. Its secret-rare status within The Secret Forces set made it a highly sought-after collectible. The card’s design, focusing on the tactical flexibility required by the ritual summoning mechanic, solidified its reputation among duelists as a masterclass in archetype-specific support.
