Next to be Lost was originally released in the 2005 expansion set Shadow of Infinity before being reprinted as a common card in Dark Revelation Volume 4. The card belongs to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, which was developed by Konami based on the manga created by Kazuki Takahashi. The design reflects the mid-2000s era of the game, where trap cards were frequently used to disrupt opponent strategies and punish aggressive playstyles during the battle phase.

The card’s illustration and function were conceived by the Konami design team to provide players with a situational removal option.
