The Poly-Chemicritter Hydragon was released as part of the Invasion: Vengeance booster set, which debuted in late 2016. This set served to expand the Chemicritter archetype, a series of Gemini monsters introduced during the Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V era. These cards were designed to breathe new life into the Gemini mechanic, a legacy playstyle that requires monsters to be summoned a second time while on the field to activate their primary effects.
