Provenance

Where it came from

Released in February 2009, this card served as a promotional incentive for subscribers of the North American Shonen Jump magazine. It belongs to a lineage of high-profile promotional cards distributed through the publication, which functioned as a bridge between the serialized manga and the burgeoning physical trading card game during the mid-2000s.

The card was illustrated with a design intended to evoke the mechanical, armored evolution of the classic Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Its aesthetic direction focused on a darker, more aggressive cybernetic motif, reflecting the dragon's transition into an effect-heavy powerhouse that dominated competitive play for years due to its potent ability to special summon high-level dragons.
